Access to a reliable water supply is essential for communities, agriculture, and long-term regional development. In Western Australia, the government is taking a significant step toward improving water security through a major upgrade of the Goldfields and Agricultural Water Supply Scheme (GAWSS).

With a planned investment of A$543 million, the project aims to strengthen the reliability and capacity of the water supply system, benefiting more than 100,000 people across the Goldfields and Wheatbelt regions.

What Does the Project Involve?

The initiative includes replacing 44.5 kilometers of the existing pipeline and duplicating the Binduli Reservoir. These improvements are expected to increase the scheme’s carrying capacity by approximately 10%, helping the system better meet the water needs of regional communities.

The project will be delivered by Water Corporation and forms part of broader efforts to support dependable water infrastructure in Western Australia.

Why Is Water Infrastructure Important?

Reliable water infrastructure supports households, agricultural activities, local businesses, and regional economic growth. Investing in pipeline upgrades and reservoir capacity can help improve supply resilience and prepare communities for future demand.

As populations and industries continue to depend on consistent water access, modernizing water systems becomes an important part of sustainable regional development.

Building a More Water-Secure Future

The GAWSS upgrade highlights how strategic infrastructure investments can help communities prepare for future water needs. By improving pipeline infrastructure and expanding reservoir capacity, Western Australia is working toward a more reliable water supply for thousands of residents.
